Wanted: citizen views on affordable housing

COLUMBIA, MO (October 12, 2007) - If you live in a rental unit in
Columbia, the Affordable Housing Policy Committee wants to hear from
you. The committee is sponsoring a survey to gather information on
current rental status, rental preferences and barriers to home
ownership. The committee will use this data to craft recommendations for
preserving or enlarging the city’s affordable housing stock.

The anonymous survey is available online at www.GoColumbiaMo.com and in
paper form at: the Columbia Public Library; Columbia Housing Authority;
Central Missouri Community Action Agency; and the City’s Planning and
Development Department (call Kathy Sides, 874-7239).

While not a scientific, random sampling process, it’s hoped that at
least 200 - 300 citizens will complete the survey by Nov. 11, 2007.

Appointed by Mayor Darwin Hindman in May 2006, the 19-member committee
will recommend to the City Council policies that expand the supply of
affordable housing. Survey data may shed some light on incentives or
requirements to achieve this goal.
