City test site for experimental road project

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The city of Columbia Public Works Department
partnered with APAC-Missouri Inc. to install a new asphalt road using
recycled materials at the city’s landfill facilities. APAC-Missouri
Inc. constructed the experimental asphalt road at the landfill operation
center and material recovery facility. The asphalt mix design is
comprised of 20 percent roofing shingles, 9 percent recycled glass and
71 percent standard asphalt mix.
APAC-Missouri Inc. donated the equipment and labor for this
project in order to encourage the use of recycled materials in asphalt.
It is a great opportunity to see how well this recycled mix holds up
under heavy truck conditions. For questions concerning this project,
contact Mike Symmonds, landfill and recovery superintendent, at (573)
874-7555.
