Children’s activities at the Columbia Festival of the Arts

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The 16th annual Columbia Festival of the Arts
will feature a special children’s art area and stage, as well as other
participatory art activities for the enjoyment of children all ages. All
performances and art activities are free.
The children’s stage will feature storytelling, children’s
theater, puppetry and music. Returning this year will be Dr. Goodfoot,
with his hilarious clown act, at noon each day of the Festival.
A special attraction this year is stilt-walker Bill Coleman on
nine-foot high stilts performing sky painting. The area will also be
marked by a 14-foot high interactive bubble sculpture and giant-size
walk-about puppets. Artwork by Columbia students will be on display in
the lobby of the Boone County Government Center as well.
The Festival will again provide a creative outlet for budding
writers at the magnetic Poetry Wall. Based on the retail success of the
smaller magnetic poetry kits made for use on
refrigerators, the wall has more than 1,700 magnetic word tiles. As
with the retail hit, the magnetic format allows participants to arrange
and rearrange words on metal surfaces to express thoughts.
The festival is free and open to the public. It will be held at
the Boone County Courthouse Square and surrounding streets in downtown
Columbia on Sept. 29-30. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both
days.
For specific performance times and stage locations, consult the
special Festival insert in the Columbia Daily Tribune’s Sept. 27
issue, contact the Office of Cultural Affairs at (573) 874-6386, e-mail
Festival at GoColumbiaMo.com or log on to www.GoColumbiaMo.com (search:
