Parks and Recreation planning Flat Branch Phase II dedication
COLUMBIA, MO (April 30, 2008) - Columbia Parks and Recreation invites
the public to attend the dedication of the second phase of Flat Branch
Park this Saturday, May 3. The ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. in the
park at 400 Locust. The park dedication is being held in conjunction
with the kickoff of Bike, Walk and Wheel Week.
The second phase of the park features a pedestrian bridge, sprayground,
playground, stone amphitheater and bronze sculptures. The MKT Trail also
winds through the park, ending in the first phase of Flat Branch Park.
Construction of the second phase of the park is a true partnership,
with support from local, state and federal sources. The citizen group
known as the Flat Branch Park Committee, co-chaired by Jack Waters and
John Ott, has solicited donations and ideas for the project, including
the design and construction of the bridge. More than $300,000 has been
contributed.
Grants from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Land and
Water Conservation Fund and the Environmental Protection Agency have
helped to fund the project. Funds from the park sales tax have also been
used in the development and construction of the park.
For more information, call 874-7460.
