City snow removal operations continue
(COLUMBIA, MO) - The city of Columbia Public Works Department
announces snow removal operations are still in full force and will
remain on duty through the night. Crews will remain on first, second and
critical priority streets throughout this evening. A mixture of salt and
cinder is being used for treatment to provide traction and melt the snow
and ice. City crews will remain out until streets are safe and
passable.
In order to run the snowplowing operations efficiently, the city
asks citizens to keep parked cars off streets as often as possible.
Parked cars are an obstacle to clearing streets, posing a hazard for
plows. Streets will be plowed and treated more thoroughly if there are
fewer cars parked on them.
The snow operations will maintain contact with the Joint
Communications Office throughout the evening to handle all emergency
situations.
Columbia Transit buses are still running on the emergency
weather schedule this evening.
