Columbia’s Vision Commission to meet for the first time Jan. 6
(COLUMBIA, MO) -- The newly formed Columbia Vision Commission
(CVC) will hold its first meeting Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 4 p.m. in the
Fourth Floor Conference of the Daniel Boone Building at 701 E. Broadway.
The CVC will help track and facilitate implementation of Columbia’s
vision plan in accordance with the following timeline.
● March 31, 2009: CVC will have developed an overall framework for
tracking progress of vision implementation.
● December 2009: CVC will present an annual vision implementation
progress report.
● Every two years thereafter: the commission will review past
implementation efforts and provide recommendations on implementing goals
for the next two years.
● 2014: the CVC will convene a community-wide dialogue to review
the vision plan and assess implementation progress. This will continue
in five-year increments.
Columbia Vision Commission members were appointed by City
Council Monday, Dec. 15. Coordinating committee members selected to
serve five-year terms include M. Dianne Drainer, Jan Weaver and Jeffrey
Williams. Daniel Goldstein and Julio Lorio will serve four-year terms.
Tracy Greever-Rice and Jay Linder were appointed to three-year terms.
The council also appointed two resource members, Lorenzo Lawson and
Philip Peters Jr.
The CVC was originally to consist of seven coordinating
committee members and two resource members. A proposed revision to the
ordinance was submitted for first reading last Monday. If approved at
the Jan. 5 Council meeting, resource members Lawson and Peters will
become coordinating committee members with two-year terms.
The nine members would then be authorized to select up to five
non-voting resource members to contribute expertise in specific areas
the commission deems necessary.
