Mayor appoints citizens’ committee for sewer ballot issue

(COLUMBIA, MO) - Mayor Darwin Hindman today announced the
appointment of a citizens’ committee to inform voters about a sewer
bond issue election that will be held on April 8, 2008. The
committee’s initial meeting will be announced as soon as details
are available.
Kee Groshong and Mary Anne McCollum will serve as committee
co-chairs, and Steve Burch will serve as treasurer.
Other committee members include: Scott Atkins, Dave Bennett,
Bill Costello, Joe Engeln, Shatenita Horton, Louesa Runge Fine, Bob
Hutton, Jim Loveless, Larry Moore, Josh Oxenhandler, Doug Pugh, Tom
O’Connor, Dan Rothery, Vicki Russell, Cynthia Schreen, Valerie
Shaw, John Shrum, Ron Shy and Mike Vangel.
The committee’s goal is to inform voters about improvements
needed to make the City’s sewer system more reliable, improve
wastewater collection throughout the community and meet federal
environmental requirements.
“I support this bond issue because I believe it will benefit
all Columbia citizens and our surrounding environment,” Hindman said.

Hindman added that a ballot issue proposed by the Boone County
Regional Sewer District also is scheduled for April 8. “With voter
approval, the City and the District can work to make long-term
improvements. I think citizens want to see this kind of cooperation in
government.”
