USTA names Cosmo tennis courts 'Facility of the Year'
COLUMBIA, MO (January 14, 2008) - The Missouri Valley division of the
United States Tennis Association (USTA) has named the Cosmo Park tennis
courts its 2007 "Facility of the Year."
The courts at Cosmo have been totally reconstructed after 25 years of
use. The eight courts were reconfigured to simplify tournament planning;
instead of one row of eight courts, there are now two rows of four. New
fencing, net posts, backboards, windscreens and lighting completed the
reconstruction.
In addition, the courts now feature “California corners” which
minimalizes ball movement and improves the appearance of ordinary square
fencing. The work was completed in the spring of 2007 and the courts
reopened for play.
The court renovations at Cosmo Park were paid for with a $100,000 USTA
grant and about $650,000 in funds generated by the park sales tax.
