Firefighters respond to rollover extrication crash on College Avenue

COLUMBIA, MO (January 18, 2008) - Columbia firefighters, along with
Columbia police and EMS units, responded at 9:38 a.m. to an injury crash
with extrication on College Avenue at Walnut Street. Firefighters
arrived to find two vehicles involved in the crash, one was a Mitsubishi
Montero Sport Utility vehicle on its wheels in a grassy area on the
northwest corner of College and Walnut. The Montero Sport Utility rolled
at least once according to witnesses. 

A second vehicle, a four-door compact vehicle, was on its wheels in the
middle of the intersection.

The single occupant of the Montero Sport Utility, the driver, was a
female who was trapped in the vehicle and suffered obvious injuries.
Firefighters extricated the patient in less than 10 minutes and she was
transported to the Level I Trauma Center at University Hospitals as a
class II trauma patient.  Class II means there are possible serious
injuries due to the mechanism (the rollover crash) of the means of
injury. 

The single-occupant (driver) of the four-door compact vehicle did not
appear to be injured and refused medical treatment. 

The Columbia Police Department will issue a release with the name of
the driver and the cause of the crash at a later time.
