Water boil order update
COLUMBIA, MO (July 17, 2008) - The first set of water samples from the
Thornbrook and Millcreek Manor subdivisions show that there was no
bacterial contamination following the water main break on July 15.
Columbia Water & Light staff collected another set of samples today. Two
clean sets of samples will enable the utility to lift the boil order for
customers living in these areas.
The precautionary boil order was issued after a water main break on a
16-inch line serving the Thornbrook and Millcreek Manor subdivisions.
The break caused the pressure to drop substantially which could have
allowed bacteria to enter the water line. Although the chlorine in the
water should have fought off any bacterial problems, Columbia Water &
Light felt it was important to conduct the analysis.
The second set of water analysis data is expected to be completed late
Friday morning. If these samples are found free of bacteria, the utility
could lift the boil order by the afternoon of Friday, July 18. The media
will alerted and customers will be notified either by a flyer or a phone
call when the boil order is lifted.
