Vehicle damages north Columbia building
COLUMBIA, MO (July 31, 2008) - Columbia firefighters were called at
10:14 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, to the Petro Mart at 3850 Range Line
St. for a report of a vehicle striking a building.
Fire crews arrived and found that a vehicle had impacted the front of
the convenience store, just to the right of the entrance doors. There
was a significant amount of damage to the building, which included glass
breakage and damage to the front wall. The driver reported to
investigators that she was attempting to park in a marked parking space
when she mistakenly depressed the accelerator instead of the brake
pedal.
There were no injuries during this incident. Damage is estimated at
$25,000-$30,000 to the building owned by Western Oil Company.
The business was temporarily closed while employees removed debris and
cleaned spilled merchandise from the floor. A representative from city
of Columbia Protective Inspection responded to evaluate the building. He
determined it was structurally sound and safe for continued occupancy.
The business reopened at approximately 3 p.m.
