Duplex suffers significant damage in northeast Columbia fire
COLUMBIA, MO (June 4, 2008) - Columbia firefighters were called at
12:27 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, to 1705 Nelwood Dr. for a report of a
structure fire.
Firefighters arrived and found heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the
roof. Fire crews entered the structure and quickly located and
extinguished the fire in a back bedroom. The home suffered significant
fire damage to the bedroom, with smoke and heat damage throughout the
rest of the duplex. No residents were home on either side of the duplex
when fire crews arrived. There were no injuries and the fire damage is
estimated at $25,000.
Investigators from the Columbia Fire Department were on the scene;
however, at this time the cause remains under investigation.
Five Columbia Fire Department apparatus and 18 personnel were used to
bring the fire under control.
The Columbia Fire Department reminds all citizens that "working smoke
alarms save lives!"
