Office of Community Services reminds citizens of tax rebates

COLUMBIA, MO (March 12, 2008) - The economic stimulus package passed by
congress this year includes a tax rebate for eligible citizens,
including those not required to file an income tax return. Persons who
may not ordinarily file a tax return include low income workers, elderly
and disabled social security recipients, and veterans receiving benefits
from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

To qualify for this rebate, individuals must have at least $3,000 of
qualifying income such as wages, social security, or veteran’s
benefits. If eligible, the minimum rebate is $300 for individuals, $600
for married couples filing jointly.

The city of Columbia/Boone County Office of Community Services would
like to encourage residents to take advantage of this one-time
opportunity.

“For persons living on low or fixed incomes, these rebates could
provide greatly needed relief from the rising cost of living” said
Steve Hollis, Community Services manager.
