City advisory committee seeks applicants for public communications
funds
COLUMBIA, MO (September 12, 2008) - Applications for $75,000 in new
public communications resource funding will be available starting
Monday, Sept. 15. The application package will be available on the
city’s Web site at www.GoColumbiaMo.com and at the City Manager’s
Office, 5th floor, Daniel Boone Building, 701 W. Broadway.
The city seeks to purchase public communications services from the
following types of eligible applicants: 1) single not-for-profit
entities, government agencies or educational institutions; a partnership
of public communication-type entities; or 3) partnerships of a single
public communications entity and other related entities such as schools,
social service agencies, libraries, museums, etc.
Services must be provided with the city’s corporate limits and must
expand or enhance communication among citizens and city officials on
issues of importance to the community. Funding proposals must be at
least $1,000 and no more than $20,000.
Completed applications must be received in the City Manager’s Office
by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17.
The funds are generated through monthly fees paid by video service
providers to the city of Columbia, as authorized by city ordinance. A
seven-member Public Communications Resource Advisory Committee appointed
by the City Council in May will coordinate an open, competitive process
to solicit applications and recommend funding levels to the City
Council.
The application process will follow the schedule shown below.
Sept. 15 - Applications available
Oct. 17 - Complete applications due by 5 p.m.
Oct. 30 - Public Communications Resources Advisory Committee will
discuss applications in an open public meeting
Nov. 18 - Advisory Committee will hold public hearing on applications
Dec. 1 - Advisory Committee will make presentations to City Council at
the Council meeting
Dec. 15 - Contracts will be presented to City Council for its approval
