Poet & performer Matt Mason at the Festival of the Arts
COLUMBIA, MO (September 22, 2008) - Fifty live performances will be
featured at the 17th annual Columbia Festival of the Arts at the Boone
County Courthouse Square and surrounding streets in downtown Columbia
Sept. 27-28, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The festival is free and open
to the public.
A highlight of the literary and performing arts schedule is Matt Mason,
a touring poet and featured performer of the Mid-America Arts Alliance
(MAAA) from Omaha, Neb. Mason will perform his original work on the
Literary Arts Stage on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and on the Courthouse
Square Stage on Sunday at 2:45 p.m.
To fund Mason’s performances, the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs
received a grant from the MAAA. The grant is also supporting poetry
workshops at both Hickman and Rock Bridge high schools that Mason will
facilitate on Monday, Sept. 29.
MAAA’s programming focuses on enriching communities through cultural
experiences throughout America’s heartland. Their funding includes
underwriting from the National
Endowment for the Arts, the Missouri Arts Council and foundations,
corporations and individuals throughout Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri,
Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas.
