Mayor, Biden talk ‘Stimulus’
COLUMBIA, MO (April 15, 2009) - Mayor Darwin Hindman updated Vice
President Joe Biden yesterday on city plans for making the most out of
federal stimulus opportunities. Hindman participated in a 30-minute
conference call with Biden, mayors from Minneapolis, Nashville and
Meridian, MS and other officials.
According to Hindman, the vice president thinks Columbia is on track
with a request to purchase buses that burn cleaner fuel. Biden
emphasized the importance of creating “green jobs.”
Hindman said he also explained the city’s interest in using stimulus
funds to hire more police officers and improve Columbia Regional
Airport.
