Severe weather possible for Boone County; residents asked to prepare
for potential storm

COLUMBIA, MO (August 4, 2009) - The National Weather Service (NWS)
reports a threat for severe weather in Mid-Missouri, including Columbia
and Boone County. While Boone County is not currently included in any
watches or warnings, the NWS reports that strong to severe thunderstorms
are possible along and north of Interstate-70 through at least early
afternoon. Storms could contain large hail and damaging winds.

While severe weather may not be immediately upon us, now is the time to
make preparations. The Columbia/Boone County Office of Emergency
Management recommends that government offices, businesses and residents
of Columbia and Boone County take time now to review their emergency
plans in the event of severe weather. Once threatening weather
approaches Columbia and Boone County, the Emergency Operations Center
will activate its network of trained storm spotters to report the
nature, path and severity of the storms. Reports from those spotters
provide essential advance notice, so residents can take shelter when
needed.
