Bear Creek Trail closed

COLUMBIA, MO (Date) - The section of the Bear Creek Trail, located
between Range Line and Garth Avenue, will be closed to all trail users
effective Feb. 23. This section is closed due to the Providence Road
Extension Project. This extension project will consist of new street
pavement from Vandiver Drive to Blue Ridge Road, construction of a new
multi-span bridge over Bear Creek and the Bear Creek Trail, and new
sidewalks. Connecting walkways to the Bear Creek Trail is included in
this project, providing greater access to the neighborhoods located
just north of Interstate 70. The total cost for this project is $4.2
million.

A trail detour has been developed which will direct trail users around
the construction. Park staff has erected informational and directional
signs at various points along the trail. A detour map is also available
on the Parks & Recreation Department’s page of the city's Web site.

The project is expected to be completed in the fall 2009. Expanding
Providence Road will significantly help with vehicular and pedestrian
traffic to offer better connectivity to and from the north part of
Columbia.

For more information on the Providence Road Extension Project, please
contact Jill Stedem at the Public Works Department, (573) 874-7250.

For more information on the trail detour, please contact Tammy Miller
of the Parks and Recreation Department (573) 874-7460 or check the
city's Web site for detour maps
(http://www.gocolumbiamo.com/ParksandRec/).
