City schedules police chief interviews, community meetings

COLUMBIA, MO (January 5, 2009) - Five candidates for city of Columbia
police chief will be here Jan. 12 - 13 for interviews and other events
to familiarize them with this community. Candidate names and brief
background statements are expected to be released Wednesday morning.
The applicants will have a busy schedule that includes:

● Interviews with the citizen committee appointed to advise the city
manager (Monday, daytime); 
● Tours of Columbia (Monday and Tuesday, daytime);
● Meeting with Police Department command staff and officers and tours
of police facilities (Monday and Tuesday, daytime);
● Meetings with senior city administrative staff (Monday and Tuesday,
daytime); and
● Interviews with the city manager (Tuesday morning).

The public is invited to meet the candidates at an informal roundtable
reception on Monday, Jan. 12, from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at the Activities and
Recreation Center, 1701 W. Ash Street. Feedback forms will be available
for those who want to record their opinions.

News media are invited to an open session on Monday, Jan. 12, from 1:15
- 4:45 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, Fourth Floor, Daniel Boone
Building, at 701 E. Broadway.

Each candidate will have a 30-minute availability for a personal
statement and responses to questions, with 15-minute breaks between each
candidate appearance. The session will be broadcast live, and then
rebroadcast several times, on the City Channel (Ch. 13 MediaCom; Ch. 2
Charter; Ch. 401 CenturyTel). Those who attend are welcome to stay
through the entire session, as shown below.

1:15 - 1:45 p.m. Candidate #1
1:45 - 2 p.m. Break
2 - 2:30 p.m. Candidate #2
2:30 - 2:45 p.m. Break
2:45 - 3:15 p.m. Candidate #3
3:15 - 3:30 p.m. Break
3:30 - 4 p.m. Candidate #4
4 - 4:15 p.m. Break
4:15 - 4:45 p.m. Candidate #5
4:45 p.m. Conclude

The police chief position has been filled on an interim basis by Tom
Dresner since former Chief Randy Boehm’s retirement last June.
