Fifth Street lane restrictions during construction of new city garage
(COLUMBIA, MO) - The city of Columbia Public Works Department announces
a temporary lane restriction for Fifth Street during construction of the
new parking garage at Fifth and Walnut. Beginning Monday, July 20, Fifth
Street from Broadway to Walnut will become one-way for southbound
traffic. Additionally, there will also be no parking on the east side of
Fifth Street in the construction zone.
Sixth Street will remain as two-way traffic, however, there will be no
parking in front of the police station on Sixth Street. These lane
restrictions are expected to last about one year during the construction
of the new garage.
The parking lot directly south of the post office facility will be
fenced off effective Monday, July 20, and will not be available for
public use until the garage is complete. Citizens are encouraged to use
the hourly parking spaces in the Sixth and Cherry parking garage or
on-street meters, or purchase covered or uncovered permits for the Sixth
and Cherry garage until the project is completed. The garage is expected
to be complete by the fall of 2010.
If you have any questions about the project and lane restrictions,
please contact the Public Works Department at (573) 874-7250.
