Late morning fire destroys central Columbia home - update 

COLUMBIA, MO (March 22, 2009) - The Columbia Fire Department responded
to a report of a fire at 112 Forest Ave. at 11:14 a.m. on Sunday, March
22. While en route to the fire, 9-1-1 communications operators were
reporting that they had received several calls concerning the fire,
there were flames visible from the home and that the owner had arrived
home and was attempting to rescue dogs from inside. 

Fire investigators have assigned a damage estimate of $50,000 to this
morning’s fire. Owners of the home report the value of the structure
at $40,000 and the occupant, Jessica Ford, 20, assigned a value of
roughly $10,000 to the contents. 

Fire investigators have determined the fire began in or near the
southwest bedroom. Fire investigators have not determined the cause,
however, the fire is suspicious and Columbia Fire Department
investigators are working with the Major Crimes Unit of the Columbia
Police Department.
