HEALTH DEPARTMENT WARNS AGAINST H1N1 INFLUENZA SCAMS
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human
Services warns residents of
possible scams associated with the 2009 H1N1 influenza. Internet sites
selling products that claim to
prevent, treat or cure 2009 H1N1 influenza are fraudulent and should be
ignored. Officials from the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration are informing offending websites that they
must take prompt action to
correct and/or remove promotions of these fraudulent products or face
immediate enforcement action.
To date, there is no vaccine for the 2009 H1N1 influenza. Public health
officials will continue to notify
the public with information regarding the prevention and treatment of
2009 H1N1 influenza.
In the meantime, the health department encourages residents to practice
common sense, proven
disease-prevention methods:
● Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently with hot, soapy water
● Cover your cough and/or sneeze with your sleeve or tissue
● Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
● Stay home if you are sick
● Avoid contact with infected persons
