Enthusiasm prevails at close of 8th annual Bike, Walk & Wheel Week

(COLUMBIA, MO) - Wet weather didn’t curb enthusiasm on the last day
of the 8th annual Mayor’s Challenge: Bike, Walk & Wheel Week. More
than 950 Columbians chose to bike or walk to 12 different breakfast
stations the morning of May 8.

Bike, Walk & Wheel Week is a weeklong event designed to encourage
everyone to try an active mode of transportation-like walking or
biking-to get to work, school and all around town. Early estimates
indicate more than 4,800 people registered and participated from May 2
to May 8 this year. From group trail rides, to bike skills classes, to
free city bus rides, Bike, Walk & Wheel Week offered opportunities for
everyone.

Bike, Walk & Wheel Week is a part of GetAbout Columbia, a
community-wide program designed to encourage active modes of
transportation-travel other than in cars. Funding for GetAbout Columbia
is provided by the Federal Highway Administration’s Non-Motorized
Transportation Pilot Program. For more details, visit
getaboutcolumbia.com or call (573) 442-7189.
