Green economy targeted at energy conference

(COLUMBIA, MO) - Jobs and the promise of economic development
from renewable energy and energy efficiency will be the focus of this
year’s Advancing Renewables in the Midwest conference to be held in
Columbia June 3 at the Anheuser-Busch Natural Resources Building on the
University of Missouri campus. This all-day event will begin at 9 a.m.
and will last until 4:30 p.m.
This is the fourth year for the Advancing Renewables in the
Midwest conference but it is the first conference since Missouri voters
passed Proposition C, requiring investor-owned utilities to integrate
renewable energy into their mix of energy sources. Although the
proposition is still in the rule making process, Robert Clayton,
chairman of the Missouri Public Service Commission will deliver the
keynote address titled “Energy and our Economic Future.”
Clayton said, “Missourians have directed renewable energy to
be a priority in our state. It’s time that we work responsibly by
adding both large and small scale renewable energy projects to the
energy grid.”
The conference features over a dozen speakers from across the
country and informational booths. The cost of the conference is $45 for
the general public and $75 for energy professionals. Solar, wind, hydro
power and algae farming will all be covered at the conference along with
the latest in energy-efficiency programs. More information about the
conference and registration can be accomplished online at
www.AdvancingRenewables.org or by calling (573) 874-7325.
Registration can also be accomplished the morning of the conference
starting at 7:30 a.m.
The fourth annual Advancing Renewables in the Midwest conference
is sponsored by Columbia Water & Light, the Missouri Department of
Natural Resources and the University of Missouri-Columbia.
