Columbia, Mo– Fire companies from the Columbia Fire Department
responded to a structure fire at 1110 West Worley Streetat 7:16 amon
Monday, November 9, 2009.
Responding fire crews arrived at the home in less then three (3)
minutes to find light smoke coming from the eaves of the home. Fire
fighters were able to knock the fire down in less then five minutes.
Fire damage was contained to a utility closet and one bedroom however
some smoke damage occurred throughout the home.
The home owners, Arthur and Deanna Trass, were home at the time of the
fire and were alerted to the fire in progress when the smoke alarms
sounded. Hearing the smoke alarms sounding, the Trass’s and their dog
were able to safely exit the home and were outside awaiting the arrival
of fire fighters.
Fire investigators determined the fire began in a utility closet near
one of the bedrooms when combustible materials were inadvertently placed
to close to the water heater. Damage is estimated at less then
$10,000.00. The home owner’s were insured.
