Registration Open for Pitch, Hit and Run Contest
Registration is being accepted for the local competition of the Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run Contest/Baseball and ASA Softball Skills. Sponsored by ColumbiaParksand Recreation, the skills competition will be held on May 8 at the Albert-Oakland Park Ball Field. Registration starts at 9 a.m.and the event will begin at 9:30 a.m.
The competition is free. Boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 14 are invited to participate. The age is determined as of July 17, 2010.
Pitch, Hit and Run is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball. In the pitch component of the competition, participants must throw strikes at a designated target. In the hit component, participants are tested for distance and accuracy by hitting a ball off a tee, and in the run portion, participants are timed starting from second base, touching third base and then home.
Winners will advance to the sectional competition in Jefferson City; sectional winners will earn the opportunity to be selected to participate in the Team Championships at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The final level of competition concludes at the 2010 MLB All-Star Game in Anaheim
Registration forms are available at the Parks & Recreation office (1 S. 7th St.) or the ArmorySportsCenter(701 E. Ash St.). Pre-registration is preferred, but walk-ups are welcome. Copy of birth certificate or baptismal record is required.
