FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 16, 2010
City, Voluntary Action Center, Noonday Optimist will distribute
computers Saturday
(COLUMBIA, MO) - This Saturday, Feb. 20, 30 of the city’s used
computers will find new homes in worthy Columbia households. The City of
Columbia, the Voluntary Action Center (VAC) and the Downtown Optimist
Club are partnering once again to provide surplus (used) computers and
equipment to eligible VAC clients as part of the “Homes For
Computers” program. The used computers are being given away to
clients enrolled in programs administered by VAC and who applied and
were found eligible for the computer giveaway. In addition, Boone County
Sheriff Andy Anderson will present a short program on Internet safety
for all computer recipients.
Those clients who applied and were found eligible have been
contacted by VAC and will receive their computer Saturday. The computers
will be distributed by the Downtown Optimist Club between 9 a.m. -12
p.m. at the Downtown Optimist Club Building, 1201 Grand Ave.
The “Homes for Computers” program was approved by City
Council December 2003. The establishment of this program allows the city
to invest in its most valuable resource, the children. This year’s
program will bring the number of donated computers to 288.
Questions should be directed to Cindy Mustard, executive
director, Voluntary Action Center, (573) 449-6959.
