Ice Skating and Fishing Closed at Parks 

Columbia Parks and Recreation has closed Stephens Lake Park for ice
skating and Cosmo-Bethel Park for ice fishing due to forecasted warming
temperatures. Predicted highs in the 40’s will cause the ice to thin
and melt, creating unpredictable conditions. Park users are cautioned to
stay off the lakes.

The Columbia Fire Department responds to an average of 10 ice water
rescue calls each winter, the majority involving animals that have
wandered onto the ice and fallen through. Citizens are urged to observe
the lake "open" and "closed" postings to ensure their safety.
