Councilman Skala named to National Leadership Council for cities

COLUMBIA, MO (January 28, 2010) - Third Ward Councilman Karl Skala will
serve on a leadership training council sponsored by the National League
of Cities (NLC). League President and Riverside, Calif., Mayor Ronald O.
Loveridge appointed him to help shape NLC leadership development
activities for members throughout the year.

Skala, Missouri’s only appointee, will serve with 37 other city
officials from across the country.

According to its Web site, the League is committed to strengthening and
promoting the leadership capacity of our nation’s local elected
officials. The Leadership Training Institute provides local city
officials with seminars and other professional development opportunities
to help them promote positive change and innovation within their
communities.

Skala reached the League’s Silver level in its Certificate of
Achievement Leadership program last year. The Silver Certificate level
is achieved by local city officials when they earn 36 credits in all
five of the core competency areas of municipal leadership.

The National League of Cities is the nation’s oldest and largest
organization devoted to strengthening and promoting cities as centers of
opportunity, leadership and governance. NLC is a resource and advocate
for 19,000 cities, towns and villages representing more than 218 million
Americans.
