Highway 63 bridge construction causes periodic traffic restrictions
(Columbia, MO) – Beginning the week of June 14, the Columbia Terminal
Railroad’s (COLT) project to construct a bridge over US Highway 63 in
north Columbia will enter the steel erection phase. U.S. Highway 63 and
the entrance and exit ramps to State Route B will be periodically closed
or restricted while the steel bridge is being installed. To minimize the
impact on motorists, all work involving road closures or lane
restrictions will be done Sundays through Thursdays, between 7 p.m. and
6 a.m. Alternate routes and detours will be available during the
closures. Steel erection is expected to take four to five weeks and
should be completed by mid-July, weather permitting. Emery Sapp & Sons,
the contractor for the project, expects the bridge to be completed by
Oct. 15.
The COLT is a short line railroad owned by the city of Columbia and
operated by Columbia Water & Light. It provides railroad freight service
to Columbia and mid-Missouri.
