Additional weather spotter class for Columbia; demand prompts need for
second class in April

COLUMBIA, MO (March 10, 2010) - After a tremendous outpouring of
interest in February, the Columbia/Boone County Office of Emergency
Management (OEM) and the National Weather Service (NWS) announces that
an additional weather spotter training class has been scheduled in
Columbia. The class will take place on Monday, April 5, from 6:30 until
8:30 p.m. at the Columbia Police Department Training Facility. The class
is free and open to everyone.

“We had such a fantastic amount of interest in the weather spotter
class we held in February that we actually had to defer a number of
RSVP’S,” says OEM Director Zim Schwartze. “So, for those people who
were unable to attend the first class, we invite you to join us for our
class in April. Whether you’re a first responder, ham radio operator or
just a weather enthusiast, you’re invited to the class. We want to thank
the National Weather Service for accommodating the residents of Columbia
and Boone County by adding this additional class.”

The Columbia Police Department Training Facility is located at 5001
Meyer Industrial Drive. Please see the attached map for directions to
the training location. To RSVP, or for more information, contact the
Columbia/Boone County Office of Emergency Management at (573) 874-7400.
