Closure of Old Route K and Hinkson Creek Trail
 
COLUMBIA, MO (March 17, 2010) - The city of Columbia Public Works
Department announces that beginning Monday, March 22, at 7:00 a.m., Don
Schnieders Construction Company, Inc. of Jefferson City, MO., will begin
construction on the Old Route K Bridge over Hinkson Creek. This project
will involve the removal of the Old Route K bridge over Hinkson Creek,
construction of a new bridge with a 10’ pedestrian walkway on the West
side and a new 5’ sidewalk on the East side. 
 
This work will result in the closure of Old Route K throughout the
duration of construction and fully reopened no later than August 20,
2010. The Hinkson Creek Trail will be closed at the bridge. As a result,
there will be no access to Providence Road via the Hinkson Creek Trail.
 
The total project cost for the new bridge construction is $1.4 million,
funded by the Non-Motorized Transportation Pilot Program and Federal
On-System Bridge Replacement & Rehabilitation Program. 
 
Motorists and pedestrians are urged to exercise extreme caution in the
construction area and use an alternate route throughout the project.
