Councilman Skala named to National University Communities Panel
 
COLUMBIA, MO (March 22, 2010) - Third Ward Councilman Karl Skala has
been appointed to the steering committee of the National League of
Cities (NLC) University Communities Council. He is one of two
Midwesterners on the 27-member panel. 
 
According to the NLC, the University Communities Council is a voluntary
group of elected officials from cities with a university or institution
of higher education within or adjacent to their borders. It’s a
mechanism for sharing information and for encouraging cooperation
between higher education institutions and local governments.
 
The University Communities Council is one of several supported by the
NLC. Some of its accomplishments include publishing “Communities of
Opportunity: Smart Growth Strategies for Colleges and Universities” and
“Innovative Programs to Enhance Neighborhood Relationships: Where
Students and Long-Term Residents Coexist.”
