Boone County Family Resources Honored at Statewide Conference


COLUMBIA, MO– Boone County Family Resources (BCFR) was honored at the
MissouriParksand Recreation Association’s annual conference with the
Musco Give-Back Award. BCFR was presented with one of five awards given
to individuals and organizations across the state that support Park and
Recreation Departments. 
 
BCFR won the award for their support of two ColumbiaParksand Recreation
programs: the C.A.R.E. program (Career Awareness Related Experience) and
Adapted Community Recreation program. 
 
BCFR, led by Executive Director Les Wagner, has provided more than
$40,000 to finance a partnership with C.A.R.E. to provide youth with
developmental disabilities the opportunity to learn job and social
skills, becoming more employable. 
 
BCFR has also provided financial support for the Adapted Community
Recreation program, which is housed at PaquinTower. The organization
gave $16,000 to the program to replace funds that were cut in the
program’s budget. These funds have allowed programs to remain in place
and to expand weekend and evening activities. BCFR has also promoted the
program’s services to their clients, increasing awareness of the program
throughout the community. 
 
ColumbiaParksand Recreation nominated BCFR for the Give-Back Award,
which is given annually to an individual or organization for an
unusually noteworthy effort to serve the underserved in the community
through parks and recreation services.
