Health Department Nurses Recognized on Nurse’s Day
Public Health Nurses Perform a Variety of Services
(COLUMBIA, MO) – Fourteen dedicated nurses at the Columbia/Boone County
Department of Public Health and Human Services will be recognized by
Department Director Stephanie Browning in honor of Nurse’s Day,
tomorrow, May 6th.
“Our nurses work daily to improve the health of all Boone County
residents”, said Browning. “Through immunizations, rural health clinics,
STD clinics, smoking cessation programs, women’s health clinics and much
more, public health nurses touch the lives of thousands each year.”
In 2009, nurses at the Columbia/Boone County Department of Public
Health and Human Services completed 19,529 immunizations (not including
H1N1 flu vaccine) and 15,105 H1N1 vaccinations. Nurses saw over 4,000
people in the daily clinics and over 2,200 at the department’s Tuesday
evening STD clinic.
The nurses will be honored with a breakfast tomorrow morning from 8-9
am. Health department clinic nurses will be unavailable at that time and
will open at 9 am for regular services.
