Ceremony planned for completion of two city projects and starting of
another
(COLUMBIA, MO) – The city of Columbia invites the public to attend a
dual groundbreaking & ribbon-cutting ceremony for three capital
projects: Mexico Gravel Road expansion, Vandiver Drive extension and
Upper Hinkson Creek sewer project. The ceremony will be held Tuesday,
May 18, at 1:30 p.m., on the Mexico Gravel Road bridge over Highway 63.
Construction will begin this month on expansion and improvements to
Mexico Gravel Road from Vandiver Drive to Route PP. The project is 3,900
feet in length and includes the reconstruction of Route PP with a
roundabout, new sidewalks on both sides of the roadway and bike lanes.
Project cost is $4.4 million, funded by Special Road District Tax, 1/4
cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax and Capital Fund Balance.
The Vandiver Drive project, which has just been completed, includes new
street pavement from the Mexico Gravel Road to Vandiver Drive with two
new roundabouts, new sidewalk and bike lanes. The Upper Hinkson Creek
sewer project, completed at the same time, replaced an 18-inch gravity
sewer line and eliminated the Mexico Gravel Road pump station and four
sewer line siphons across Hinkson Creek. These two projects cost $6.7
million.
