(Columbia, MO) - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a medical emergency at 7:07 PM on Monday,
May 31, 2010 to Stephens Lake at 100 Old Highway 63 North. 

Information from callers at the lake to 9-1-1 indicated a male was found underwater in the swimming
area and that people on the scene were performing CPR. 

Columbia fire fighters arrived on the scene at 7:11 PM and found Columbia Police officers performing
CPR on a male patient. Columbia fire personnel and ambulance personnel took over patient care of an 
approximately forty (40) year old male who was not breathing and had no pulse. Scene care including CPR was continued and at 7:22 PM the patient was transported to University of Missouri Hospitals Level One Trauma Center. 

It is unknown how long the patient had been under the water or for what reason the patient was under
the water. The Columbia Police Department will investigate the circumstances of the incident and issue
additional information when it is available.
