Green merge areas to be marked for bicycles
(COLUMBIA, MO) – The Public Works Department announces that Park Mark Inc. will mark pavement with green merge areas beginning Thursday, Nov. 4, and continuing through the weekend from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting. Crews will work at the following intersections: Nifong/Forum, Stadium/Old Highway 63, Stadium/Forum and Nifong/Buttonwood. Motorists encountering the paint equipment should avoid crossing freshly painted lines. There will be lane restrictions when crews are working in these areas.
The green merge areas are intended to mark where bikes and cars either merge or cross. This is a federally approved experiment that will be assessed and documented. Public comment on the use of the green merge markings is welcome. Citizens are urged to go online to GetaboutColumbia.com, click on “contact us” and comment on the project. This project is part of the GetAbout Columbia $22 million non-motorized pilot program being funded by the Federal Highway Administration.
