City invites applicants for the 2011 Neighborhood Leadership Program

(COLUMBIA, MO) – The city of Columbia invites residents to apply for
the 2011 Neighborhood Leadership Program. The program is designed to
help those who serve in a leadership role in their neighborhoods, or
have an interest in becoming active, learn more about local government
and gain ideas to make their neighborhoods stronger.
The Neighborhood Leadership Program includes seven sessions scheduled
for Tuesday evenings from Feb. 1 through March 15. Session topics
include an overview of local government, public safety, code
enforcement, the planning and development process and ideas to
strengthen neighborhoods. Participants will get new ideas for their
neighborhoods and network with others in the community who face similar
challenges. The content of the series should be helpful to those with
years of experience as well as those just getting started in
neighborhood efforts.
“Our goal is for participants to leave the program with more knowledge
on how to connect with municipal government and be energized about
working on issues important to their neighborhood,” said Leigh Britt,
manager of the city’s Office of Neighborhood Services.
Applications will be accepted through Jan. 10. Twenty-five applicants
will be selected to participate and will be notified of their acceptance
by Jan. 14. Those interested can apply online at www.GoColumbiaMo.com.
There is a $25 registration fee for those accepted into the 2011 class;
scholarships are available. To learn more and to register, call the
Office of Neighborhood Services at 817-5050.
