First train crosses Highway 63 on new bridge

(COLUMBIA, MO) – Columbia Terminal Railroad (COLT) staff loaded 12 coal cars in Centralia this morning and made the first voyage across the new rail bridge over Highway 63. The $3.8 million bridge project is rapidly nearing completion with only cleanup and restoration of the construction site remaining. The old railroad tracks have been removed from the highway and concrete work is being completed along the highway entrance and exit ramps. A formal dedication ceremony for the bridge is planned for later this fall.
The COLT is a short line railroad owned by the city of Columbia and operated by Columbia Water & Light. It provides railroad freight service to Columbia and mid-Missouri businesses.
