‘Keys to the City’ will be held Oct. 6
 
Meeting will include City Council office hours 
followed by a Neighborhood Organizing Workshop  
      
 (COLUMBIA, MO) – The public is invited to a special event called “Keys to the City” on Wednesday, Oct. 6, from 5-9 p.m. at the ARC, 1701 West Ash. The purpose of the event is to provide the public with additional information about city government and access to both elected officials and city staff. This event will also include the first Building Community NOW (Neighborhood Organizing Workshop) on the topic “What is a Neighborhood Association?”
 
The schedule includes: 
Council Office Hours and Information Fair, 5-7 p.m.:
•  “Office hours” where residents can visit with City Council members on issues of importance to them. The tentative Council schedule is:
o 5-7 p.m. -  Ward 1 Councilman Paul Sturtz, Ward 3 Councilman Gary Kespohl, Ward 5 Councilwoman Laura Nauser 
o 5:30-7 p.m. - Ward 6 Councilwoman Barbara Hoppe
o 6-7 p.m. - Mayor Bob McDavid
• Information Fair featuring staff from several city departments
 
What is a Neighborhood Association?, 7-9 p.m.:
• Part of the Building Communities NOW workshop series sponsored by the Office of Neighborhood Services and University of Missouri Extension, Boone County, this session will focus on the city of Columbia’s neighborhood organization policy.  Participants will learn the process of becoming a city-recognized neighborhood association and hear from a panel of neighborhood leaders on projects and issues in the areas where they live.
 
Future workshops in this series are:
• Wednesday, Oct. 20, 6-9 p.m. at the Walton Building, 300 S. Providence Road – Running the Show: Meeting Facilitation
• Wednesday, Nov. 3, 6-9 p.m. at the Lenoir Community Center, 3710 Lenoir St. – Where are we going? Strategic Planning
• Wednesday, Nov. 17, 6-9 p.m. at the Parkade Center, 601 Business Loop 70 W – Get others on the bandwagon: Participation and Marketing
 
 “Keys to the City” supports the Imagine Columbia’s Future visioning project and Columbia’s effort to be a connected, informed and engaged community. The event is free and open to the public.
