First Snow Possible for Boone County

COLUMBIA, MO (December 3, 2011) - The latest information from the National Weather Service (NWS) indicates a possibility of snowfall in Columbia and Boone County on Monday.  The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) reminds residents to prepare for that possibility in your homes and vehicles.

"While a significant amount of snow is not expected for our immediate area we still need to make sure we're prepared," says OEM Director Zim Schwartze.  "A Monday snow could make things hazardous for drivers on the evening commute.  So you're on the road, drive a little slower, be ready for slick spots, and be aware of other drivers.  In your home make sure you have the proper supplies, such as food and water, snow removal tools and material, candles, and flashlights.  Most importantly, we advise residents to tune to local media for the latest weather information.  Just a few minutes of preparation will help lessen the danger that winter weather can bring."

The National Weather Service reports that a band of wintry precipitation is expected to move into mid-Missouri Monday and Monday evening.  At the present time, an accumulation of one-half inch is forecast for Columbia and Boone County, while two to four inches could fall in areas from Jefferson City to St. Louis.
