Temporary closure of Short Street

COLUMBIA, MO (December 30, 2011) - The city of Columbia Public Works Department announces that beginning Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 8 a.m., Short Street will close from Broadway to Walnut Street. Crews will remove bricks from the street in preparation for a new city garage and hotel development. Bricks from the street will be salvaged and stored for use on other historic brick streets in the downtown area. Short Street will remain closed until the garage is completed in 2013.

Traffic will need to detour around the construction site; traffic on Broadway and Walnut will not be affected. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to exercise extreme caution when in the construction area.
