Parks and Recreation Reminds Users of Leash Free Areas

As the weather becomes warmer, there is more activity in City parks and
on trails. ColumbiaParksand Recreation would like to remind park users
to please keep their dogs on a leash, unless they are in a designated
off-leash area or dog park.

These off-leash areas in the City were approved by City Council:
· Grindstone Nature Area (except for walking trails), 2011
Old 63 South
· Bear Creek Nature Area in northern portion of
CosmoPark(except for walking trails), 1615 Business Loop 70 West
· Twin Lakes RecreationAreaDogPark, 2500 Chapel Hill Road
· Garth NatureAreaDogPark, 2799 N. Garth
· Hinkson Woods Conservation Area, access via MKT Trail west
of Twin Lakes; Hinkson Woods sign is posted on the trail.

Park users who have their dogs in all other areas of the parks, trails
and nature areas are required to keep their pets on a four-foot leash at
all times. The Park Ranger will be concentrating on problem areas
starting with the Forum Nature Area, and those not following the leash
policy may be issued citations.

Dog owners are also required by city ordinance to remove droppings from
any area visited. For the convenience of dog owners, dog waste bags are
located in off-leash areas, but owners should be prepared to bring their
own bags, if needed.
For more information, call Parks and Recreation at 874-7460 or go
online at www.GoColumbiaMo.com ( http://www.gocolumbiamo.com/ ). Type
“off-leash” in the search box on the web site to view maps showing
leash-free areas and dog park regulations.
