Small Storm Causes Damage in Boone County
COLUMBIA, MO (July 28, 2011) - A pop-up thunderstorm that formed early Thursday west of Boone County resulted in reports of wind damage and heavy rain some areas in Columbia and Boone County. The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has received a handful of storm-related reports, but no widespread damage has been reported from the storms that moved through Boone County.
Storm-related damage reported to the Public Safety Joint Communications Center includes:
*At least one tent blown down at the Boone County Fairgrounds. One person was treated for minor injuries at the scene
*Trees downed along Route UU south of Midway
*Trees and power lines downed in an area between east Morris Drive and Oakland Gravel Road in northeast Columbia
*One home was slightly damaged on East Morris Drive
Residents who have suffered power outages are asked to call Columbia Water and Light at #573-875-2555, or Boone Electric at #573-449-4181 or 800-225-8143.
