Downtown parking meter rates to increase July 1
COLUMBIA, MO (June 22, 2011) - City parking meter rates will increase effective July 1 as shown below. Columbia City Council members authorized the increases on June 20.
* Double the fee at downtown on-street meters from 30 cents to 60 cents per hour.
* Increase the fee at meters near the University of Missouri from 50 cents to 75 cents per hour.
* Raise the cost of surface lot permits from $40 to $50 per month.
* Establish free parking on Saturdays in all downtown city garages.
Parking enforcement hours remain Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition to the increases listed, permits for the Fifth and Walnut parking garage will decrease temporarily. As a special offer from July 1 through Dec. 31, parking permits will be $35 per month for the Fifth and Walnut Garage, a savings of $25 monthly. Citizens are encouraged to take advantage of this limited, special offer. Parking permits can be obtained at City Hall, third floor in Public Works.
While the new rates will go into effect on July 1, it is estimated it will take Parking Utility staff up to one month to get all downtown meters changed. As the meters are changed to the new rates, new stickers will be placed on them.
