Deck Collapse Injures Two

COLUMBIA, MO (June 25, 2011) - At 2:00 PM, on Saturday, June 25, 2011, Columbia Fire Fighters were dispatched to 2001 Newton Drive for a report of a structural collapse with multiple patients injured and trapped.

Fire fighters arrived to find a wooden deck on the rear of the house had pulled away from the structure and collapsed. During the collapse, two individuals suffered multiple injuries and were found on the ground, but not trapped in the debris.

Fire fighters began patient treatment and stabilization of the deck to prevent further collapse. Both patients complained of multiple injuries to extremities and back and neck pain. Both patients were transported to University Hospitals for evaluation and treatment.

The City of Columbia Department of Building and Site Safety and Development also responded to evaluate a cause of the collapse.
