Boone County Experiences Morning Storms
COLUMBIA, MO (June 27, 2011) - Telecommunicators in the Public Safety Joint Communications Operations Center handled fifty-three storm-related calls during the early morning hours of June 27, 2011. Calls began streaming in shortly after 1 a.m. as the first wave of thunderstorms moved into Boone County.
A majority of the fifty-three calls taken by the PSJC 9-1-1 Center were for trees which were blown down by 50 to 60 MPH wind gusts in the Columbia, Harrisburg and Ashland areas. Many other calls centered on storm-triggered power outages, and minor flooding was reported in several areas. Minimal damage has been reported, but no injuries.
While no significant flooding is currently reported in Columbia or Boone County, the Office of Emergency Management maintains a list of county road closures due to flooding conditions. That list can be found at www.showmeboone.com/OEM/.
