PSJC Asks Residents to Call Non-Emergency Line to Report Fireworks
COLUMBIA, MO (June 30, 2011) - "
With the Fourth of July holiday this weekend, the Columbia/Boone County Office of Public Safety Joint Communications (PSJC) reminds residents to use the non-emergency phone number of 573-442-6131 to report complaints of fireworks.
While PSJC encourages everyone to call 9-1-1 in the event of injuries or fire triggered by fireworks, non-emergency received over the 9-1-1 lines at the Operations Center can prevent telecommunicators from taking actual emergency calls. That can delay the response time to someone who really needs help.
Those planning on discharging fireworks this weekend are asked to consult their local city ordinances before doing so. Many municipalities, including the city of Columbia, forbid the discharge of fireworks within the city limits.
