Tornado Drill Postponed
COLUMBIA, MO (March 7, 2011) - Due to the threat of severe weather in Columbia, Boone County and throughout the state of Missouri, the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and the National Weather Service have postponed Tuesday's scheduled statewide outdoor warning siren activation. The drill has been postponed until Thursday, March 10th, at 1:30 p.m.
"The anticipated conditions for severe weather on Tuesday prompted the decision to postpone the siren activation until Thursday," says OEM Director Zim Schwartze. "We did not want to cause any unnecessary alarm for anyone given the potential weather conditions."
Schools, businesses, hospitals and governmental offices are encouraged to either practice, conduct their drills and examine their emergency plans on Tuesday, or wait until Thursday when the outdoor warning sirens are triggered.
